How to Find UGC Creators for Licensed Product Assets
A commissioning guide for product footage, with a setup-video portfolio review and separate licensing and testimonial checks.
Find UGC creators by the assets they can produce and the permissions you need, rather than by follower count alone. In commercial briefs, “UGC creator” often means someone commissioned to make relatable product content. That is different from an unsolicited customer post. Decide whether you need licensed footage, a published endorsement or both.
Write the asset specification
Specify the product task, aspect ratio, language, footage and planned placements. If a testimonial is required, confirm the creator will actually use the product and describe their own experience truthfully. Do not ask a hired performer to imply a customer history they do not have. Separate a demonstration script from personal opinion.
- Asset-only work may not require posting to the creator’s audience.
- A creator-published endorsement needs its own distribution terms and disclosure.
- Advertising reuse needs permission for the exact footage, people, music, edits and placement.
Review a portfolio rather than a popularity score
The Pro Creator Finder can identify relevant TikTok, Instagram and YouTube examples, but it is not a dedicated directory of licensed UGC suppliers. Review public portfolios or appropriate professional listings separately. Ask whether the creator produced the work shown, what role they performed and whether the proposed commission is within their capabilities.
- 1
Inspect task execution
Check sound, lighting, useful framing, product handling and whether the intended step is clearly shown.
- 2
Confirm production access
Ask about equipment, location, product delivery, schedule and any participant permission.
- 3
Agree revisions
Specify factual corrections, reshoots and delivery formats without requiring a false personal experience.
- 4
Define the license
Record channels, region, term, edits, paid use and any account-level advertising permission separately.
Worked example: a coffee-grinder setup asset
A fictional kitchen brand needs a beginner setup video and a permitted short ad edit. It selects a creator whose portfolio shows clear tabletop instruction. The brief demonstrates assembly using current manufacturer instructions, captures readable close-ups and avoids claiming the creator has used the product for months.
- Portfolio worksheet: source/date; creator’s role; comparable task; sound/framing; production requirements; evidence gap.
- Shot brief: identify parts; show permitted setup; demonstrate one bounded operation; explain a documented limitation; omit unsafe or unsupported techniques.
- License worksheet: exact asset; owner/participants; channels; paid placement; region; term; edits; music; raw footage; renewal contact.
Keep rights and claims separate
Copyright Office photography is relevant to image licensing. FTC endorsement questions concerns truthful endorsements. TikTok collaboration music rights is platform-specific music context. A completed invoice or supplied product does not automatically resolve all reuse rights, and copyright clearance does not substantiate a product claim.
Next step
Use the partnership workflow to record agreement and approvals. What UGC means helps label the resulting content honestly.

Frequently asked questions
Do UGC creators need a large following?
For asset-only work, production capability and rights may matter more. Distribution is a separate purchased role.
Is commissioned UGC the same as an unsolicited customer review?
No. Describe the commercial relationship accurately and preserve truthful experience.
What rights should a UGC contract specify?
Exact assets, channels, duration, territory, edits, paid placements, participants, music and any account advertising permissions.
Can I run a creator’s video as an ad after buying one post?
Only with the necessary agreed permissions for that use.
